Day Trip Yandina – Eumundi, Sunshine Coast, Queenslan. Australia

If you have a strong attachment to your boots and beanies, you’re probably in the wrong place. Even though this is technically our ‘coldest time of year’, our balmy days are still hot, hot, and hotter than most places around the world in the height of summer. We again headed north to The Sunshine Coast, which is home to some of Queensland's favourite events and festivals, from marathons and triathlons across the beautiful Sunshine Coast beaches to food and wine festivals, outdoor cinemas and more local markets than any other cities in the state.

This was our first time attending Yandina Plant & Produce Market, which boasts approximately 100+ stalls on an average market day, with close to half of those being plants, fruits and vegetables of one variety or another, renowned for being the largest plant market on the coast. We browsed through to find food, fresh produce, bric-a-brac, second-hand treasures, collectables, clothes shoes, books, toys and a stack.

The Yandina Markets are a real-deal country farmers market and was quite busy and this weekend had plenty to stores to browse a few hours. From the markets we headed to one of Yandina’s most popular tourist attractions, The Ginger Factory, which offers visitors a plethora of options from local produce, nature, cute heritage style villages and more.

The most iconic thing you can obviously do is the Buderim Ginger Factory tour. During this tour you can find out how the local ginger is grown, processed and turned into the wide array of products that Buderim Ginger sells. After the tour you can try a tasting of the various product lines and find out why the Ginger Factory produces the finest ginger in the world. Kim checked out the Ginger shop, where you can buy anything ginger.

Ginger beer, chews, dried ginger, crystallised ginger and so much more, there’s sure to be something which will tickle your fancy. Just across the road from the Ginger Factory is Nutworks. Visitors are welcome to uncover the history and health benefits of Australia's macadamia nut, view chocolates and roasting nuts being made and taste the delicious samples on offer. There's an amazing array of unique and boutique macadamias, chocolate and confectionery, including beautiful packaged gifts and hampers. Just besides Nutworks you can treat your taste buds with coffee from one of the original small batch specialty coffee roasters on the Sunshine Coast. Pioneer Coffee Roastery is an award-winning small batch specialty coffee roaster and their coffee  from standard House Blends to  carefully selected Single Origins,  are lovingly roasted on-site using Diedrich IR 12 roaster.

We then headed a few k’s up the highway to The Eumundi Markets, which is Australia's biggest and best art, craft and produce market, held every Saturday and Wednesday of the year (rain, hail or shine) in the heart of the charming historic hinterland town of Eumundi on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Eumundi may be a small town but it is big in character with a range of fun things to see and do including the Eumundi Markets, brewery and numerous boutique stores. Any Wednesday or Saturday of the year around 10,000 locals, interstate and international tourists come to enjoy the atmosphere, the fun and of course the multitude of arts, crafts and produce on display, over 300 stalls of them in fact, as well as music and street theatre. There are plenty of other things to do in Eumundi including art galleries, hiking and beautiful scenic views making it a perfect destination for a day trip from the Sunshine Coast’s coastal regions.

DAY TRIP TO SUNSHINE COAST MARKET, QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA.

The closest Brisbane gets to freezing point is the ice in our drinks – so raise ‘em high and celebrate crisp, clear days of winter sunshine. Up early we headed to The Sunshine Coast which offers plenty of weekend markets to wander through and it won’t take you long to realise why the Sunshine Coast ranks as one of the top ‘market’ destinations in Australia. You will find some great hidden treasures, fresh local produce, homemade treats, funky jewellery, handmade clothing and talented buskers who will add a memorable soundtrack to your day.

The Fisherman’s market provides a really good Sunday-vibe with good food and lots to see. Fishermans Road Markets have been operating and managed for the past 20 years by the Lions Club of Mooloolaba and by shopping at this market; you are also supporting many community projects. There can be up to 128 stalls offering a huge variety of items for sale including local and market fruit and Vegetables, Clothing (both new and pre-loved), pet treats, hand tools, books, popcorn, fresh seafood, 2nd hand items and so on. A cute market with its own charm

The markets are not far from the Maroochy River, which is the ultimate spot for relaxation on the Sunshine Coast. Whether you're in it, or around it, it is one of the Coast's greatest environmental areas and has long been a source of fun, work and relaxation for the region's residents and tourists. There is plenty to see and do when it comes to the Maroochy River. There are multiple places you can choose from, like Bradman Ave Foreshore, Chambers Island or even Picnic Point. One of our favourite areas has to be Cotton Tree on the river banks and near the river mouth. From Maroochy we headed to the Caloundra Markets

Every Sunday morning two blocks of the tree-lined boulevard of busy Bulcock St, Caloundra’s popular shopping precinct, are colourfully transformed into the Caloundra Street Fair Markets.

The market stores are spaced out amongst the street and under the shade of a stunning avenue of fig trees. It’s always buzzing with folk seeking creative art & craft, fresh fruit & vegetables, yummy food, trendy fashion, quirky gadgets, healthy massage & natural remedies, stunning jewellery, lively entertainment & other unique fare. The setting is ideal, with open-air shopping & Caloundra’s CBD eateries providing ambience & an eclectic backdrop.

Double the shopping, double the fun, double the action Caloundra Markets are a ‘must visit’ feature & a great place to drop in if you are visiting Caloundra any Sunday.

The Sunshine Coast offers plenty of weekend markets. A majority of them sell fresh and tasty local produce, along with a variety of other items that ranges from apparel, novelties, handcrafts, foodstuffs and bric-a-brac. It is a good idea to get there early so you don't miss out on some of the festivities or great bargains.

Some of our favourite Sunshine Coast Markets are:

Eumundi Markets

The Eumundi Markets is Australia's biggest and best art, craft and produce market, held every Saturday and Wednesday of the year (rain, hail or shine) in the heart of the charming historic hinterland town of Eumundi on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Any Wednesday or Saturday of the year around 10,000 locals, interstate and international tourists come to enjoy the atmosphere, the fun and of course the multitude of arts, crafts and produce on display, over 300 stalls of them in fact, as well as music and street theatre.

Kin Kin Creations Market

Kin Kin Creations Market is a market for people who have made their own products, grown their own produce or want to promote a Sunshine Coast Business. Local businesses include Living Valley Springs, High Spirits, Kin Kin Naturals, Kin Kin Beads, Kin Kin Souls, Kin Kin Tea, Black Ant Gourmet, Madzara, and many more

Cotton Tree Markets

Cotton Tree Markets offers something for everyone. For more than 22 years the Market has featured local artisans, designers or inventors selling their own unique and creative works within a precinct of fine cafes, fashion and wares. You’ll find fashion, jewellery, original artworks, sculptures, skincare, pottery, shells, plants, baking, homewares, kids toys and more. Soak up the friendly market atmosphere and be entertained by local performers. By supporting the Cotton Tree Markets you’re not only supporting the Sunshine Coast’s local artisans, designers and inventors, you are also supporting people living with cancer.

Peregian Beach Markets

This unique beach side market is held on the first (1st) and third (3rd) Sunday of any month at Kingfisher Park.

The Peregian Beach Market has been operating for over 25 years in support of the great work of our local Surf Life Saving Club at Noosa Heads. Generally the market has plenty of stalls of various type and style. Preference is given to stalls that contain local content that includes, locally grown, made, designed and or created.

Markets can be a great way to lazily while away a sunny morning or a breezy summer evening, without spending too much money if you're on a budget, if you're visiting the Sunshine Coast.
