Sunday morning was The RACQ International Women’s Day Fun Run, that transformed Brisbane’s Botanical Gardens into a sea of pink as participants came together to raise funds for Mater Chicks in Pink services and breast cancer research. The event consisted of a 6km or 10km walk/run followed by celebrations in the finisher’s village. The 2020 event has reached capacity, with 13,500 women, men and children registered to hit the route on Sunday 8 March.
This was Kim’s 5th year volunteering this event and this year she was allocated Start Line marshal. Kim had to direct and organize participants into their allocated starting zone. International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on the 8th of March.
New for 2020, both courses start and finish at the City Botanic Gardens and have been designed to provide the best experience to you as a participant, whether you have chosen to walk, jog or run.
Aimed to make the
most of Brisbane’s riverfront setting, both the 6 km and 10 km courses cross
the iconic Story Bridge and pass through Kangaroo Point with Brisbane city
in full view. The 10km course also crosses the Howard Smith Wharves
precinct and the floating River Walk.
After the event The Finishers' Village was the place to be after the event. If you were running or walking in memory of someone, you can honour your special someone at the RACQ Tribute Wall, wear your Tribute Card during the race.
Ultra marathon runner Jacqui Bell, the youngest person in the world to conquer an Ultra Marathon on all 7 continents, completed the run and was at the Brooks stand to meet people. At the Mater tent you could meet Mater breast cancer surgeons, nurses and researchers, ask questions and learn about the importance of breast checks.
