Walk Brisbane Brighton to Redcliffe Clontarf , Queensland Australia

We are blessed with amazing weather in Brisbane making the greater Brisbane area the perfect place to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. A great way to discover what this beautiful city has to offer is to think like a tourist and get into discovery mode.

Today I took Shari for a scenic walk along Ted Smout Bridge.  With over 22 kilometres of coastline, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to walking or riding your bike alongside Redcliffe local beaches. You can start and/or finish your walk at Scarborough, Redcliffe, Margate, Woody Point, or Clontarf all the while enjoying uninterrupted views of the ocean between Brisbane, Moreton Island and Bribie Island.

The Redcliffe Peninsula has a number of beautiful beaches and parks galore offering plenty of natural beauty for visitors to enjoy.

If you fancy a long walk across the water, like we did, you will enjoy the casual 6km return along the Ted Smout Bridge, which stretches 2.7km from Clontarf in Redcliffe to Brighton. At the halfway point, you can stop at a fishing platform and you might see local fishermen reeling in a catch (if you’re lucky). The bridge is named 'Ted Smout Memorial Bridge' after Ted Smout, Queensland’s last surviving World War One veteran, who lived in Sandgate and died in 2004.

A number of scenic waterfront walks are possible around the Redcliffe Peninsula, starting from Clontarf, through Woody Point, along Margate and Suttons beaches, past the Redcliffe Jetty through to Scarborough. The full circuit is about 13km one way but there are plenty of opportunities to stop for a swim or a coffee along the way, or you may choose to just do one section. Significant points of interest are the pelican feeding at Clontarf, Gayundah Wreck at Woody Point, the Redcliffe Foreshore Public Art Trail

While at Redcliffe don't forget to walk along Bee Gee Way, a tribute to the band the Bee Gees, who came to fame while they lived in Redcliffe.
