PINK HOPE – SHESHARES EVENT BRISBANE
Pink
Hope recently launched She Shares events which are a great opportunity for
women at-risk or affected by cancer to get together in a light-hearted setting
to share stories and advice! Pink Hope is a breast and ovarian preventative
health hub, working to ensure every individual can assess, manage and reduce
their risk of breast and ovarian cancer, while providing personalized support
to at-risk women. The preventative health charity was started by Krystal Barter
when she was only 22-year-old. She is very familiar with the genetic risks of
breast cancer due to her own family’s long history with the disease as carriers
of the BRAC1 gene mutation. Like Angelina Jolie, multiple generations of women
have been diagnosed at young ages.
Kim
with Annie and help of Lisa from Pink Hope have been busy this past month
organizing a “She Shares” event for Brisbane. “She Shares” events are a place
for women to meet in a comfortable setting to share laughs, thoughts,
questions, and advice. Guest Speaker was: Julie McDonald ~ Olympic Swimmer for
Australia and a melanoma survivor. Julie is working with people who have health issues helping them increase their cellular renewal rates and empowering the body to heal itself.
The
first Brisbane event was held at Fuelled Café. Situated in the cultural heart
of South Brisbane under the Ivy and Eve Towers, Fuelled café fuels offers its
customers and their busy day with cooked breakfasts, crispy wraps and an array
of mouth-watering sandwiches and patisserie treats. All their food is made with
the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Fuelled Cafe pride themselves on their
coffee sourced from around the world and roasted t in Sydney. Ann, from
Fuelled provided a room upstairs with 15 ladies attending and sharing their
stories.
We all
have stories about good times and bad, how we’ve struggled to find answers
where there were none, overcome hardship and heartache, and discovered the
secrets to some of our life’s greatest joys.
But
sharing our experiences with others is not only empowering, it can help to
lighten the way for those who are walking a similar path. Kim’s experience has
taught her that supporting one another to fulfill individual and collective
potential is why we are all here. Sometimes, all it takes to connect with
someone else is sharing our vulnerable story, lending an ear or a shoulder, and
just being present for them.
Let’s
be honest, it takes courage to share your story because it means letting go of
the carefully crafted image of the person you believe you should be in exchange
for the unedited version that includes your imperfect quirky bits and pieces,
and all that you’ve learned (mostly the hard way) through your experiences.It
is this unfiltered story that will free you to be your authentic self. Scary I
know, but the benefits are enormous.
One of
the most powerful things we can do is to help others when they are in need, and
in order to do that we need to be willing to share our knowledge, experiences
and the lessons we’ve learned.

Interested to find out some good locations in Brisbane for photography? Over time I have been collating all of my photo session locations into one folder on my computer for easy reference. If you're able to part ways with your bed early enough, you'll get a glimpse of one of Mother Nature's beautiful gifts: a sunrise. This is truly one of the most magnificent sights to see. The sky fills with vibrant, warm colors as the world begins to wake up to a brand new day. If you're able to view this firsthand, you know you need to capture the show in the sky and post a pic.

Brisbane is beautiful but we all have our best angle, so these places I love getting up and early capturing the sunrises, Redcliffe, Woody Point, Nudgee Beach, Shorncliffe Pier, Mt Coot-tha , Manly Pier, Wynnum Jetty and Wellington Point Pier.

There’s something so dreamy about waking up early with a cup of coffee in hand, and starting a brand new day with such a gorgeous sight. As the sun starts peeking its head over the horizon, it's basically saying, "good morning" to you.
The world around you embraces the new day, and you'll see people running along the beach or heading out for an early breakfast. It's a magical time, and must be documented with a great pic.

You simply cannot take a unique picture by photographing the same places, at the same time, from the same angles as everyone else. If you want your pictures to stand out from the crowd, you need to do something different. Photographing at sunrise and sunset goes part of the way in giving you that something different.

Most people are used to seeing the world as it exists in the middle of the day, they are not used to seeing it at sunrise and sunset. A typical day will have 10 hours of midday lighting, but the sunrise and sunset last only a little while. Further, people often miss them entirely. People are usually sleeping at dawn, or if not, are getting ready for work and not focused on the sky.

By photographing at sunrise and sunset, you are showing your viewers something they don’t see all the time. It avoids the commonplace. It will make your pictures more interesting to your viewers.

You don’t need to go far from home to see beautiful places. Sometimes, it is just a matter of seizing the right moment, the right opportunity. You are at home at the end of the afternoon. Sunset is in one hour. Where can you go to catch the show? The magic hour colours and a burning sky can transform any - everyday scenery into a stunning experience.

My list of the best sunset spots I love going to in Brisbane are, Wilsons Lookout, Kangaroo Point Cliffs, New Farm Park, Hamilton Lookout and Hornibrook Pier.
The world looks different at night. That, more than anything, continues to drive me toward night photography. The physiology of our eyes causes them to see very differently than the camera at night. During the day, the cones in the retina reveal the world in Technicolor. At night, the cone’s companions, the rods, work overtime to offer a picture of what is before you, which the cones relay with muted colors. The camera does not know the natural boundaries of rods and cones. It has the ability to capture color regardless of the level of ambient light. Therefore, the camera allows us to see our dark surroundings in a vastly different way than our eyes perceive it. Photographing at night allows us to see night in all its wonderful color.

The Village Markets Stones Corner
Burleigh Heads huge
fashion market is making waves in Brisbane.
We know
that sometimes after a ruff week, you just want to paws and head out to
breakfast with your furry friend. We were in a dog walking group a couple of
years ago and we had breakfast at Brown Dog Café so we decided to drop in there
again before heading to Stones Corners Markets. Woollongabba's cafes often have queues around
the block, a trend that is unique to Queensland diners.
Brown
Dog has to be one of the undisputed gems if Brisbane. Brown Dog Cafe occupies a
tiny ex-corner store in a bit of a no-man’s land outside of the Woolloongabba’s
antique quarter, but that doesn’t stop the crowds piling in on a regular basis.
The vibe is cool urban retro, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.
The
lures are many - the friendly spot on service, well made Di Bella coffee and
food that miraculously appears from the airline-galley sized kitchen, not to
mention the park-your-dog spaces outside. On that note, one of the standout
dishes happens to be the Dog breakfast – scrambled eggs, haloumi, avocado, roma
tomato and spinach. Even though they are really busy, they always greet all
clients, and happy to take orders. We could stay all morning, but the markets
were beckoning.
Our favourite
Burleigh Heads market, The Village Markets, expanded North to Brisbane at
Stones Corner on a quarterly basis. This was our second chance to drop in and
check out the stores.
The
Village Markets at Stones Corner Village lined up with boutique market stalls,
live music, creative workshops, family fun, pre-loved designer and vintage Rack
Sales and good vibes. Alongside this is a beautiful street filled with
boutiques, eateries, eclectic establishments and more.
One
thing we like about visiting different markets is that they are all unique;
they all sell perishable commodities from varied suppliers but there will
always be a few stallholders distinctive to each market.
Fashion,
art, homewares and handcrafted goods as far as the eye can see — that's The
Village Markets. A Burleigh Heads favourite ever since setting up shop over a
decade ago, this regular browsing and buying mecca combines a specially curated
stall lineup with food, drinks, live local music and creative workshops, plus a
super relaxed vibe.
It’s
great news for us living north of Burleigh Heads, TVM now makes the leap to
Brisbane. Forget driving down the highway — all we need to do is make our way
to Stones Corner Village once a quarter.
Regardless
of the time of year, the market is perfect for anyone looking for a gift — for
others, and for themselves. Think everything from colourful dresses to luxe
jewellery to accessories for your puppy, plus the Brissie version of TVM's
famed pre-loved designer and vintage rack sales.
