The gateway to the majestic North Stradbroke Island, Cleveland also takes centre stage in the arts with an award-winning museum, impressive art galleries and an outstanding regional performing arts centre. The beautiful Raby Bay Foreshore Park, with sandy beaches, a dog off-leash beach, electric barbecues and sprawling grassed areas is perfect for coastal picnics and outdoors catch-ups with friends and family.

With magnificent Moreton Bay on three sides, Cleveland Point is one of the most iconic, must-visit sites on Redlands Coast, and an iconic starting point for this morning’s walk. There are plenty of reasons to stop and stay a while at the Cleveland Point Reserve too. Aside from the picturesque location and mesmerizing views, the Lighthouse restaurant and attached fish and chippery serves up great seafood and other fare to either eat in or take away and enjoy at one of the many picnic tables, children’s playground, shaded picnic areas and toilets, plus a picturesque pathway around the point for leisurely strolls and cycles.

From Lighthouse Point there is a flat 6.5km walk/cycle, which takes you past some quaint 19th century buildings in the bay’s best preserved historical village as well as a number of secluded seafront parks on the way to GJ Walter Park. Those bringing their 4-legged friends can let them off-leash at GJ Walter Park, which I penciled in for another time.

I headed towards the Norfolk Island Pine Trees, which are a heritage-listed group of trees at 127 Shore Street North, passed the Redlands Boat Harbour and followed the track towards Raby Bay Boulevard Park. Overlooking boat harbour, with great views across Moreton Bay to the lighthouse Raby Bay, Raby Bay Boulevard Park is a popular hit for users of all ages. Consisting of Hags Uniplay Jilax Unit, Unimini Imse Unit and Pillar of Hercules, this new playground offers non-prescriptive activity options and encourages users to challenge themselves and use their imagination for hours.

From the park is a serene greenscape at the bottom of the Cleveland Point peninsula. I took my time walking around the footpath and soaked up the awesome bay views, watched some fisherman baiting the hook. Seldom crowded, this park is a great place to enjoy tranquility and nature's beauty. In the western side of the park, there's a small sandy beach that is great for taking a cooling dip or launching a kayak. A proper boat ramp is located between the Redlands Boat Club and the Volunteer Marine Rescue building near the park entrance. The path ends at the Raby Bay Canal, entrance to Moreton Bay for the residents.

From here I turned around and made my way back to Cleveland Point Park, which is dominated by a historic 1864 lighthouse surrounded by water on three sides

Redlands Coast is also home to an expansive network of commuter and recreational walking and cycling trails. Explore bushland creeks and waterways, and island and mainland foreshores by foot or bicycle.
