We did this a couple of years
ago. I decided to now start recording our travels. Enjoy the read.
If you've done the coast, why stop there? Queensland has some of
the most accessible, big-sky, genuine outback Australian country you can
experience. Famous for its characters, culture, history and ancient landscapes
where visitors feel the genuine Aussie embrace of a vast network of welcoming
communities.
Home to the rich ribbons of Channel Country floodplains, to the
rolling Mitchell grass downs and ancient Spinifex deserts – the landscapes of
Outback Queensland offer an incredible variety of experiences, an amazing tapestry
of rural Australia. With hidden pockets of almost tropical rainforest;
Carnarvon Gorge, Porcupine Gorge, and Boodjamulla National Park (Lawn Hill), to
the rugged red desert sands of Windorah, Boulia and Birdsville. Friendly
characters, a proud history and a landscape which seems endless – this is
Queensland’s Outback. An amazing country of red hills, plains that stretch to
eternity, spectacular sunsets and star-studded night skies; the place to enjoy
the following experiences:

Our Queensland Outback Trip
started with at three hundred and sixty kilometre trip threw Dalby and
Chinchilla, then twenty kilometers north of Miles to Possum Park. What you
will notice upon arrival, during World War II Possum Park was a 'top secret'
place, well guarded by a select group of Australian Airmen! Possum Park,
then called 3CR RAAF Kowguran, was the largest bomb and ammunition dump on the
Brisbane Line, our last line of defence in the event of a much-feared Japanese
invasion. This depot then held up to two and a half thousand tons of high
explosive bombs and ammunition, all hidden in twenty well protected underground
bunkers. But now the secret is out! Possum Park is now a quiet and peaceful
place. The bombs are gone and now the invasion's friendly!

I have always wanted to visit Australia. Great tips that I will keep in mind. Definitely need to visit Possum Park. I love military history (even in other countries)!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun read. I loved the goat races, the fact that you were able to go fishing along the way, the different museums you visited and how you found great activities no matter where you were. I am not a history buff but even that looked interesting. Loved hearing about your experiences on your road trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for dropping by and leaving at comment.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fun trip! The spa complex looks like a relaxing stop, and the woolscore looks interesting. Great that you included so much history.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a wonderful experience! I haven't been to Queensland, so I am grateful for introducing it to me. I love all the photos and I must say I felt like being there, too! I love history and it would be awesome to visit those museums as well. And ah, fishing for the win!
ReplyDeleteI have been in Australia in 2015 and I loved but I never have been in Quensland, just in WA, Australia is so biiiigggggg! I will be back for sure, travel by campervan is the best way. Thanks for your tips, I never though that eat in the pub will be cheaper than buy food to cook.
ReplyDeleteI Loved your landscape pictures, the last one is stunning!
