Jan Powers Powerhouse Markets, New Farm - Brisbane, Queensland. Australia

Saturday morning we headed to Brisbane’s inner-north riverside suburb of New Farm. New Farm is booming and constantly adding more cafes, bars, boutiques and restaurants to the area. The inner-north is better known for its cafe culture but also boasts some Brisbane fine-dining favourites. Gerard’s Bistro’s fancy Middle Eastern is one of the city’s best restaurants, period, while E’cco, Rogue Bistro and Allium can all match it with favourites in other areas. 

New Farm Park is one of Brisbane’s oldest, grandest and largest parks and attracts more than 18000 visitors each week from all around the world. The 37-acre park is popular spot with local families and friends who gather on weekends to relax, picnic, barbecue, kick a ball and catch up beneath the trees or in the open fields. Next to the park is the Brisbane Powerhouse, an incredible old building re-purposed as an edgy arts centre. Catch live music, comedy, theatre and more, plus the weekend farmers markets and moonlight cinema (seasonal).

There’s no better way to start your weekend than to sip your freshly brewed coffee and simply catch up with family or friends as you take a stroll through Jan Powers Powerhouse Markets. The Jan Powers Farmers Markets are in front of the Brisbane Powerhouse, Lamington St Newfarm, every Saturday of the month from 6 am till 12 noon. Brisbane Farmers Market are a great place to spend a Saturday morning, browsing through the fresh produce and eating the delicious food produce lined along the bustling walkway selling a range of fresh products. Fortify yourself with a coffee and the paper and then a croissant, or an omelette, crepes, sausages, dumplings, French pizzas, Japanese chicken skewers, before you pack your basket full of farm fresh fruit and veg, meats, seafood, small goods, sauces, olives, dips, cakes, bread, fresh herbs, oils. Above all, what gives these markets the edge are the stall holders - each more passionate about their offerings than the other.

Kim loved Frankie and Friends, which is an Australian Dog Boutique that designs and stocks a wide range of cute dog harnesses, leashes, collars, bow ties, dog cooling vests. Also Chica + Co which bake Holistic treats that is beneficial & entertaining to your paw-pals health & happiness.

Kim picked up some new tights from Tight Life, a fresh business start-up focusing on sports tights for women and young girls on the move. Also she picked up some amazing resentence bands for Armor Fit, which offers the most effective way to achieve your fitness and wellness goals anywhere and anytime. Say goodbye to latex bands rolling and snapping.

Just at the end of the markets is Powerhouse Park,  located adjacent to the Brisbane River and the historic Brisbane Powerhouse. The dog off-leash area is shady and always busy. There is a large grassed area next to the dog park which is suitable for picnics, as well as a bike path running along the river. This park is popular with apartment dwellers with small dogs.
