Winter Sunshine Adventures: From Yandina to Eumundi
There’s something special about winter on the Sunshine Coast. The skies are crisp and blue, the air is fresh, and the morning light makes everything feel just that little bit brighter. Our Saturday adventure began under this perfect winter sunshine at Yandina Markets, one of the Sunshine Coast’s best-kept secrets.
Morning at Yandina Markets
Just over an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, the Yandina Markets sit tucked away off Farrell Street in the little country town of Yandina. Known as the “locals’ market,” Yandina offers a warm, authentic experience. It’s a place where fresh farm produce meets quirky treasures and bric-a-brac. From organic fruit and vegetables to locally grown plants, handmade jams, antiques, and even the occasional chicken or two, the market is a delightful mix of everything you never knew you needed. The friendly stallholders add to the charm, happy to share stories about their goods or chat about the town’s history.
With a coffee in hand and a few little finds in our bag, we hopped back in the car and continued a little further north on the Bruce Highway—about 20 minutes—to our next stop: the famous Eumundi Markets.
Eumundi Markets – A Feast for the Senses
No visit to the Sunshine Coast is complete without exploring the Eumundi Markets. Only about 1.5 hours from Brisbane, Eumundi is the region’s most iconic market, renowned for its motto: “Make it, bake it, grow it, sew it.” Every Saturday, the historic market town transforms into a vibrant hub of creativity and flavour, with more than 600 stalls showcasing the best of local art, fashion, food, and live music.
Walking through the market lanes is like stepping into a kaleidoscope of colour and sound—handcrafted jewellery glitters under the sun, the aroma of sizzling international street food fills the air, and live performers set the soundtrack to your shopping. Highlights include artisan clothing, original artworks, eco-friendly homewares, and plenty of food stalls offering everything from German sausages to vegan delights.
A Midday Stop – Matso’s Sunshine Coast Brewery
Halfway through browsing the stalls, our stomachs reminded us it was time to refuel. Just a short stroll from the markets, we found ourselves at Matso’s Sunshine Coast Brewery. Located in the heart of Eumundi, this dog-friendly venue is an absolute gem. Matso’s is famous for its unique flavoured beers—like their iconic Mango Beer, Ginger Beer, and the refreshing Hard Lemon—which pair perfectly with Queensland’s sunny weather.
The food menu is equally impressive, blending pub classics with a gourmet twist. Think crispy pork belly bao buns, beer-battered fish and chips, and fresh local seafood. The service was outstanding, warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. Shari, our pup, was equally impressed, enjoying her spot in the dog-friendly outdoor area.
Afternoon Finds – Shopping Treasures
With full bellies and happy smiles, we wandered back to the markets for round two. This time, we were on a mission to find something special. Kim spotted a flowing summer dress at Rescue Recycle Reuse, a stall dedicated to sustainable fashion. Based within the Eumundi Markets, they focus on giving pre-loved clothing and materials a new life—each piece unique and filled with character.
Next, we picked up a bottle of liquid chai, a concentrated chai blend crafted with rich spices and honey, perfect for cosy winter mornings at home. The stallholder explained how it can be enjoyed hot with milk or cold over ice—a little taste of market magic to take home.
Our final stop was Urban Coyote, another Eumundi favourite. This stall blends bohemian style with modern design, offering handcrafted clothing and accessories inspired by coastal living. Kim found another beautiful dress here, the perfect blend of comfort and style.
Wrapping Up the Day
As the afternoon sun dipped lower, we realised just how much we had packed into one winter’s day: local produce and bargains at Yandina, artisan treasures at Eumundi, a delicious lunch and cold drinks at Matso’s, and a handful of unique finds to take home.
Summary
Our Saturday adventure was the perfect mix of markets, food, and sunshine. From the rustic charm of Yandina Markets to the vibrant energy of Eumundi Markets, topped off with a relaxing lunch at Matso’s Sunshine Coast Brewery, it was a reminder of why the Sunshine Coast is such a special destination. With treasures from Rescue Recycle Reuse and Urban Coyote, plus a bottle of liquid chai tucked safely in our bag, we left feeling full, happy, and already planning our next trip back.
