🌸 A Sunday Drive to Toowoomba: Breakfast, Blossoms & Market Treasures
The Start of Our Adventure
There’s nothing quite like a sunny Sunday to hit the road for a little adventure, and Toowoomba, known as the “Garden City,” was calling our names. Just 90 minutes west of Brisbane, Toowoomba is perched high on the Great Dividing Range and is famous for its cooler climate, blooming gardens, and vibrant annual festivals.
Our first stop had to be breakfast, and where better than one of our Toowoomba favourites — Urth Café.
Breakfast at Urth Café
Tucked away in the heart of Toowoomba, Urth Café & Co is a local gem known for its cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and generous all-day breakfast menu. The café prides itself on fresh, wholesome ingredients and a menu that balances classic comfort with creative twists. Kim ordered the mushroom & bacon dish, full of earthy flavours and perfectly crispy sides. I went big with the signature Big Breakfast — eggs, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, and all the trimmings. And of course, our pup Shari was spoiled with her very own side of bacon — a true café regular by now! With great coffee in hand and plates that hit the spot, we were fueled and ready to explore.
Blossoms at Queen’s Park
From Urth, it’s a short drive to Queen’s Park, the jewel of Toowoomba’s green spaces. Each September, the park bursts into life during the world-famous Carnival of Flowers — Australia’s longest-running floral festival, dating back to 1949.
This year’s carnival was extra special with the introduction of the Paw Parade — a paw-fect celebration for pets and their proud owners. Furry friends of every size and style paraded through the gardens in costumes, bringing an extra splash of colour and character to the floral displays. Shari watched on with excitement (and a little envy!) as dogs strutted their stuff amongst the blooms.
After the parade, we wandered through the garden beds, each one exploding with tulips, petunias, snapdragons, and marigolds, carefully designed to showcase a rainbow of springtime beauty.
Toowoomba Regional Sunday Markets
No Sunday adventure is complete without a market stroll, and Toowoomba doesn’t disappoint. The Toowoomba Farmers & Artisan Markets, held every Sunday, are a hub of local life. Rows of stalls brim with farm-fresh produce, handmade crafts, artisan breads, cheeses, preserves, and unique gifts.
We browsed through handmade candles, locally grown honey, fresh pastries, and vibrant arts and crafts — each stall telling a story of the region’s talent and creativity. For dog lovers, there were even stalls with homemade pet treats, perfect for spoiling Shari.
The atmosphere was lively, with live music floating through the air, kids enjoying the sunshine, and families filling baskets with local treasures.
Wrapping Up a Perfect Sunday
As the afternoon sun stretched across Toowoomba, we couldn’t help but reflect on the perfect blend of food, flowers, and fun. A hearty breakfast at Urth Café, the stunning floral displays of Queen’s Park, the quirky delight of the Paw Parade, and the buzzing energy of the markets made for an unforgettable Sunday escape.
