QClash Rivalry & Carnival Lights: A Thrilling Brisbane Lions vs Suns Game Followed by a Magical Night at The Grand Multicultural Carnival

A Super Saturday of Sport, Culture and Colour

Our Saturday started bright and early, with a quick stop to drop our pup Shari off at Kim’s dad’s place. He was already up and about, chainsaw in hand, trimming trees while Shari took on the role of supervisor for the day—tail wagging and eyes alert, of course. With our furry friend in safe hands, we hit the M1 and headed south toward the Gold Coast for a big day ahead.

First stop: the annual QClash—our much-loved AFL showdown between the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns. Held at Heritage Bank Stadium in Nerang, the match was a complete sellout, and despite a few light showers throughout the afternoon, the weather did little to dampen the roaring energy from the crowd. Sadly, our Lions were outplayed this year, but that didn’t take away from the fun. The atmosphere was electric, and the stadium—surrounded by palm trees and coastal breeze—never disappoints. Win or lose, it’s a game we never miss.

After the final siren, we swapped jerseys for culture and made our way to Warner Bros. Movie World for the Grand Multicultural Carnival Experience. What an incredible contrast! From footy cheers to cultural celebration, the night exploded with vibrant colour, rhythms, and flavours. There were more than 25 world cultural performances, a spectacular grand parade, and a bustling Global Food Fair with mouthwatering dishes from across the globe.

We wandered through rows of arts, crafts, and cultural stalls, soaking up live music and infectious drumbeats. The best part? It was all comfortably undercover, protected from the persistent drizzle outside. We even had a chance to enjoy the Movie World rides after dark—an adrenaline-packed bonus to an already thrilling evening. To top it all off, we shared laughs with Looney Tunes characters, danced along to the cultural rhythms, and felt completely immersed in the festive spirit.

Summary:

From early morning tree cutting to the AFL rivalry at QClash, followed by a multicultural extravaganza at Movie World, our Saturday was packed with energy, excitement, and celebration. Even with the rain, nothing could dull the day. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
