Saturday Night at the Eat Street Markets

It had been quite some time since we last wandered through the vibrant Eat Street Markets, but after our visit this weekend, we’ve decided it’s something we’ll be doing a lot more often—especially when special events are on. There’s something magic about the mix of twinkling lights, sizzling street food, and live music floating through the air that makes Brisbane’s Eat Street such an unforgettable experience.

For those who haven’t been before, Eat Street Northshore sits on Hamilton’s riverside, just a short drive from Brisbane’s city centre. What makes it truly unique is its setting—built entirely from colourful repurposed shipping containers lining the dockside. Since opening in 2013 on the site of an old wharf, Eat Street has grown into a must-visit foodie destination, drawing locals and visitors with its global flavours and carnival-style atmosphere.

Before the evening crowd poured in, we took the chance to stroll around with our pup, Shari, exploring the maze of walkways with aromas drifting from every corner—BBQ smoke from one, sweet churros from another. The variety here is incredible: everything from Japanese dumplings and loaded fries to classic Aussie burgers, vegan treats, and decadent desserts that look almost too good to eat.

We found a cozy table near the Main Stage, where a live band was pumping out a mix of Christmas favourites and crowd-pleasers that had everyone in a festive mood. The music followed us wherever we wandered, with solo performers and acoustic sets scattered through different corners of Eat Street, adding to the buzzing atmosphere. Even as the night grew busier and the lines a little longer, the combination of great food, lights reflecting off the river, and non-stop entertainment meant the evening flew by in what felt like minutes.

Eat Street isn’t just about foodit’s a complete sensory experience. Between the entertainment, themed nights, and seasonal events, there’s always something new to see and taste. Whether you’re bringing the kids, meeting friends, or—like us—bringing your furry companion for a stroll before the crowd, it’s one of Brisbane’s most exciting weekend outings.

If you haven’t been in a while, it’s worth putting Eat Street Markets back on your must-do list.
